The book drive that we were running at our Cambria Winery tasting room in September and October is now officially over, and boy did we collect a lot of books! I want to say thank you to everyone who donated a book to our tasting room “book barrel” this fall, as it will make a huge difference to children without access to books in the communities of Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo! As I mentioned in my previous blog post about our book drive, we are going to be taking all of these great books that you donated and giving them away to two great organizations in our area: the Head Start program in Santa Maria, and Altrusa in San Luis Obispo. With their great programs, I know these books are going to touch a lots of children’s lives, and we are so excited to deliver them to their new homes!
We were really blown away by the generosity of our tasting room guests and Wine Club members this fall! By the numbers, we received more than a barrel of books from all of our tasting room guests! In addition to these, we received sixty books from our awesome Wine Club members, who were generous enough to take the prepaid envelopes we sent with their shipments and send back some amazing books. Altogether, it added up to almost a barrel and a half of books! So thank you, thank you, thank you for your generosity in donating – you are all rock stars!
Although this ends our tasting room book drive for the year, we haven’t finished our literacy program just yet! Cambria is still supporting international literacy organization First Book through the end of the December, and we are hoping to encourage even more donations to their literacy programs this November and December! The donations will go to First Book programs that are set up across the United States, as well as to several parts of Canada, and will allow First Book to give new books to children in classrooms, after-school programs, and reading programs in low-income neighborhoods that need them. To donate, all you have to do is text “Firstbook” to 20222. This will automatically add $5 to your phone bill, and send $5 to First Book to help them buy 2 1/2 more new books for their literacy programs this holiday season!
