Last Friday night…we ate fresh, local food from Santa Maria farmers, danced to a bluegrass band, petted baby ostriches, and celebrated 25 years of history for Cambria Winery!

I was only six months old when my mom and dad oversaw the first harvest ever for Cambria Winery, and soon afterwards, a legend was born! Cambria has been producing classic cool-climate Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs ever since. Of course, a lot has happened since our first harvest in 1986, including bringing on lots of talented people in the vineyard and winery, particularly our wonderful winemaker Denise, who first started working here in the fall of 1999 as an assistant winemaker. Other exciting ideas and changes included the beginning of our clonal Chardonnay and Pinot Noir programs about a decade after we started, which focus in on the typicity of different Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sub-varieties within each of our slightly different soil types and terroirs and, in doing so, show so much about what each different Pinot or Chardonnay clone brings to our blends. And there have been all of the wonderful experiences of being able to produce, taste, and share our wines with other people, which my family has cherished being able to do for so long. It has been a wonderful 25 years, so thank you to each and every one of you who has been a part of it, whether it has been through purchasing our wines or through being a employee, neighbor, or friend!

I’ll be back tomorrow with a recap of our event, so please come back and check it out! (There will be photos of baby ostriches involved!)
