We recently ran out of our 2007 Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay, which means that we can now introduce our 2008 vintage to all of you!
I tried this vintage for the first time a couple of months ago, and I loved it! I loved the ’07, but this one is possibly even more delicious – it seems more lush, more vibrant and a little bit more elegant than the Chardonnay the previous year.
So without further ado, let me introduce you to the new Katherine’s Vineyard:
She is a little fresher, a little bolder, and a little more sophisticated than she was a year ago. After surviving some bracing frosts during late spring, she managed to catch up in development with several months of steady growth during the summer, which was slightly warmer than usual for the Santa Maria Valley. A refreshingly cool autumn allowed her finish ripening at a calm and leisurely pace and to develop the complex flavors that a long season of growth makes possible.
When I asked Cambria’s winemaker Denise what she had to say about the release of the 2008, she said: “The ‘08 Katherine’s is one of my favorite vintages! All of the components of the wine are in balance – elegant, fresh tropical and citrus fruit accented with a nice minerally character; good texture and body, yet it has good acidity that lengthens the finish. The wine really displays the best varietal characteristics from the Cambria Vineyard and the Santa Maria Valley. The 2007 Katherine’s was a very richly flavored wine and the ’08 has rich flavors but seems brighter and better structured. I am excited that it has been released!”
Since the 2008 was released last month, it may not be available on the shelves of your local grocery store or wine shop for a while longer. But not to worry – it’s on its way!
We hope you love it as much as we do!

Salut!! said: Beautiful wine... can't wait to enjoy it again with another romantic dinner. This Chardonnay is smooth and rich. I apprecaite that it is still crisp, yet not oaky or heavy. If I close my eyes and enjoy the nose on this Chardonnay, I imagine I'm in Hawaii with a hint of pineapple in the breeze- but alas I am in Washington (the state) on a cold, rainy night after a meal of Dungeneess Crab and garlic bread- thank you Cambria for rounding this night out with a wonderful wine. I will be purhasing a full case from my wine gal within the week. Salut, Angela
